Sharon Powell Weimar

Sharon Powell Weimar, a member of the Norman High School class of 1966, passed away on August 10, 2016, at age 67, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. She resided at Belfair of Shawnee, and was under the loving care of Lifespring Hospice.

Sharon was born to Frank and Mary Powell (Riedel) in New London, Conn., on Oct. 28, 1948, where her father was stationed with the U.S. Navy. The family went where the Navy called, eventually ending up in Norman in 1963, where her father eventually retired from Navy life.

Sharon graduated from Norman High and attended the University of Oklahoma for a year. She married her husband, Dr. William (Bill) R. Weimar, Jr. in Norman in January of 1967. After moving to Baltimore, Md., she trained as a radiology technician at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She moved to Montreal, Canada, in 1972, where she worked at the Montreal General Hospital as a dental radiology technician for 5 years. In 1977, she moved to Brookline, Mass., in the Boston area, where Sharon worked as a radiology technician and taught her craft at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine for several years. After moving to Gainesville, Fla., in 1986, she began working as a radiology technician at the University of Florida College of Dentistry.

She retired from work in 1997, following her husband, Bill, to Savannah, Ga., and Bradenton, Fla., before they returned to Norman in 2009.

Sharon was a sweet, intelligent, loyal, hard-working, and loving wife and mother. She joins her husband, Bill, who passed in 2010. She is missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her father, Frank Powell.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Mann, son-in-law, Monte, and grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher, of Valley View, Texas; her son, Michael Weimar, daughter-in-law, Sonja, and grandchildren Will and Meredith, of Gainesville, Fla.; mother, Mary Powell (Riedel) of Norman; brother, Charles Powell, and sister-in-law, Shirley ,of Norman; and, sister, Belinda Armstrong (Powell), and brother-in-law, David, of Norman.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, 220 S. Webster Ave., in Norman on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1 p.m.
