J. Greg Nieto

J. Greg Nieto

March 23, 1956 - May 4, 2021

Greg Nieto, age 65, of Norman went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021. Surrounded by his loving wife and children, he passed away peacefully after a brief illness.

Greg was a life-long resident of Norman, graduating Norman High School in 1974. He attended the University of Oklahoma on a wrestling scholarship and majored in finance. Soon after college, Greg began work at R.J. Edwards Inc. in public finance with his father.

Eventually, Greg and his father Paul formed their own firm, and through the years represented cities, towns, counties, and schools all over Oklahoma. Greg joined The Baker Group in 1998 and continued to represent municipalities across the state. He had been working in public finance since 1981 and was one of the senior members of the industry in the State. At the time of his passing, Greg was the Founding Director of Public Finance at The Baker Group.

Greg left each of us a better person having known and loved him. We will miss his unique wit and big heart. Greg enjoyed life to the fullest; he knew well how to live. Spending time with his family brought him such great joy. Greg was “the best of the best” according to his family members and was considered “our hero”.  He was always “on-call” for his family and friends.

Greg is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diana (Hammons) Nieto, beloved children Lexi (Nieto) Henegar and Nate Nieto; son-in-law Justin Henegar, and adored grandchildren: Jaylyn, Jaxon, Ellie, Adley, Cora, Brynlee, and Thea. Preceding him in death were parents Paul and Wanda Nieto, and brother Paul M. Nieto. Greg will be dearly missed by numbers of extended family, including mother-in-law Ella Hammons and so many more cherished family members. Greg’s family, extended family, friends, and business associates will all undoubtedly miss the sound of his voice and the humor which filled every life he touched. We are blessed to know we will be reunited in Heaven one future day.
