I met Lynne when I was assigned to Miss Carlson's grade 7 Home Room (all girls) at Sutherland when we moved to North Van.  She stood out because she was good at art.   We weren't close friends, but knew each other through high school, and she was another of the Class of '58 group in Home Ec. at UBC.  I particularly remember her design for a beautiful tweed coat and dress which she made in a 4th year Dress Design course.  Later, I understand, she taught Home Ec. in the BC Interior.

I also remember Lynne and her remarkable artwork.  She was also an excellent student if I remember correctly. I remember Miss Carlson's comment, "Silence, ladies," spoken in her typically understated manner.  I remember getting a "D" grade on my report card the term in which we had to read "Treasure Island".  I hated the book--it was a boys' book with nary a single girl in it.  Hmmph!  We switched to poetry the following term.  I loved it and aced it.  Mr. Dawe was astounded at my improvement in such a short time.  I never did tell him that I didn't read "Treasure Island".  Don't remember if I even had Mr. Dawe for English in Gr. 7, but he seemed to know about my dismal performance the previous term.  I've since come to tolerate "Treasure Island" but it will never be on my list of favourites!
