School Story
I ran away to sea on charter yachts in 1964. Started building a small wooden boat to set off cruising on my own in 1965. Met Lin (a Californian) She helped build the boat and three years later we set off for a six month voyage to Mexico. Found we could earn our way as we explored under sail. Kept sailing for the rest of my life. Did boat repairs, delivered yachts, and later took up writing about sailing. Lin's the primary write, do the more technical stuff but her latest book, Bull Canyon, a Boatbuilder a Writer and Other Wildlife is a memoir that describes our lives together. After many years of wandering we ended up finding a great bit of land on an island just 30 miles north of Auckland. It's reminiscent of the Gulf Islands without the cold long winters. Got a very small boatyard, house and office there plus a place to keep our 29 foot cruising boat and a collection of other smaller boats.
