It's always such sad news to hear of the passing of another of our classmates. Though I didn't know Tom all that well, I remember his time with the B.C. Lions and what an athlete he was. Condolences to his family. Mavis (Rollingson) Creech

Some may not know that Tom's wife Heather is a Sinclair and sister of Margo who is the Prime Minister's mother. The Sinclair's lived just off Paisley on a little cul de sac in the Capilano Highlands. His Dad was coaching Little League that played at what we called Sowden Park in those days and Ken Hick and I went to see about joining up. If my memory serves me near correct we started in a little newcomer league but quickly joined the regular little leaguers when they saw how intimidating Ken was with his fast ball. His speed actually put fear in some of the batter's he faced. I think they were worried he might hit them. Anyway it was Tom's Dad, Tom Walker Senior who got us started in organized baseball.. Unrelated but of interrest is that sometime later they held a coaching clinic on base stealing at the park and the instructor was Norm Trasolini (spelling ?) who was a Vancouver firefighter at the time. In Norm's retirement years he lived at McCleese Lake and would often drive up to Quesnel to visit with our Fire Chief Chuck Beath. Beath was from Vanouver and played senior baseball in the day's of Mr. Baseball, Bob Brown in Vancouver and of course knew Trasolini back then. Norm remembered going over to the North Shore to the park and giving the base stealing clinic. Trasolini at one time was the Vancouver Baseball club's General Manager. On July 4, 1931 the very first "Night Baseball" game was played in Canada at Vancouver's Athletic Park (at 5th and Henlock) and it was Norm Trasolini hitting the first "Night Game" homer over the right field wall. Trasolini played ball with fellows like Coley Hall, Tony Teloski and Hal Straight, names that should ring a bell if you followed Vancouver sports in the late 1940s and into the 1950s. Tommy Walker (as we knew him in school) was a neat guy, big enough that he ended up playing guard at university in the U.S. and later a stint with the BC Lions. His Dad was a wonderful baseball coach and very nice gentleman and Tom inherited his Dad's qualities. Sorry for your loss Heather.
