Oakvale High School
Class of 1965
ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dear Classmates of the OHS Class of 1965,

I learned some really sad news Tuesday that I need to share with all of you.

Two of our former classmates were take from our class roll in the last couple of days.  I don't know any particulars on either at this time, so I'll have to update this announcement once I learn more details.

Connie Clyburn Stump Cosby was found dead at her home in Princeton on Monday evening. Her body had to be taken to the state medical examiner since there was no one with her when she died.

A member of the family shared that Charlotte Melvin Calfee has also passed away.  Charlotte was still living in Alaska.  I received the notice second hand and don't know any additional details.  I'll try to call her sister, Carolyn, tomorrow to see what she knows.

Hearing about these two deaths shook me up quite a lot today.  Certainly didn't expect to hear of either.

Please remember both of these families in your prayers and may God bless each of you and your families.   Love, Delbert

As I promised in my last announcement,  here is Connie Sue Clyburn's obituary as was published on the Riffe's Funeral Service Website, Saturday, July 1, 2017.  There will be no services.

Connie Sue "Sis" Clyburn, 69 of Princeton peacefully passed away at her home. She was born in Princeton, WV and raised in Kellysville, WV. She was the daughter of the late Roy R. and Myrtle Virginia Hill Clyburn.

She was a graduate of Oakvale High School and retired from the United States Postal Service in Bluefield, West Virginia. Connie loved butterflies, bingo, all sports and her loving pet Maggie. She was a loving mother, sister, and daughter.

She is survived by her son, Mark Clyburn and wife Andrea of Narrows; a granddaughter, Cassandra B. Fields and husband Terry of Rural Retreat; two great-grandchildren, James Mason Fields and Holden Lane Fields; four brothers, Dennis Clyburn and wife Virginia, Donald Clyburn, Michael Clyburn, and Earl Clyburn and wife Joan.

During her life, she appreciated the generosity, friendship, and love of her many friends that brought her comfort and joy throughout the years.

The family is being served by Riffe's Funeral Service, (540) 726-2442 and online at www.riffefuneralservice.com.

Here is my follow up on Charlotte Melvin Calfee as promised.

Charlotte Melvin Calfee, age 70, was born October 11, 1946, in Pigeon Creek where she was raised and went to school at Oakvale, where she graduated in 1965.  Charlotte moved to Anchorage, Alaska, not long after graduation, where she remained and raised her family there.   She passed on in her sleep on June 26, 2017.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Melvin; sisters Clairdale and Clarice; and her brother Benny.   She is survived by her sister Carolyn Melvin of Oakvale and her family in Anchorage.  Our sincere condolences to her family and friends.
Charlotte's obituary published in Alaska Dispatch News on June 28, 2017, is below:

Charlotte Calfee (1946 - 2017)
My Sweetheart of more than 40 years has died peacefully in her sleep Monday morning, June 26, 2017. Charlotte Calfee was your breakfast waitress for the mid-70s through the 80s at Village Inn, and from the 80s through the 90s at Elmer's Restaurant. Many of you will remember her smile and the quick service she loved to give.
We motorhomed Alaska for 25 years, and enjoyed a country house in Hawaii for 30 years. We had lots of I love yous for all that time, including a goodnight kiss and the usual friendly pat on the butt the night she died.
She will be missed by her children, Renee and Christopher; by her devoted grandkids, Brianna and John; and by me, Bruce Conner.
We'll have a small service at Witzleben on Bragaw in Anchorage, Alaska, on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 2 p.m. Please come help me say goodbye to my girl, Charlotte Calfee.
