Darlene and I grew up just across the street from each other in old North Ogden. She was a good person and I always liked her. She had another Sister Gennie and two brothers, Danny and Alan.  Last I heard Alan was living in Uintah, but this was some years back.  Don't know if Danny or Gennie are still around.   I remember the family well. We, the kids played and had lots of fun. I remember hearing from my Mom (Rubie Chamberlain Barker), that Darlene had passed away some years back, and at the time of her passing she was living in Green River, Utah. I haven't seen any of the Staley Family for years. Their three old home sites are now occupied by SMITH's Grocery Store (1st home), Wells Fargo Bank (2nd home) and Lindquist Mortuary (3rd home). In fact my old home will probably fall victim to the wrecking ball before this year (2009) is out. For any of you familiar with North Ogden it's the old 3 story home with big tall pine trees around. It is just South on Washington Blvd (400 East) across the street (2600 North), from the McDonalds in North Ogden. Acres Market is in the same parking lot as McDonalds. We used to own and operate a large dairy farm, Quality Dairy at that spot. My Uncle Wayne Barker for years ran, Barker's Service. First a Sinclair Station. Later Conoco. And finally just independent Barker's Service. The Artisian well by Acres Market was dug and put in by my Step-Grandfather, Clarence Barker. Verle Barker was my Step-Father. At one time the Barkers owned all the property where Acres Market and McDonald's, the America 1st Credit Union and Walgreens Drug Store is. They tore down my Grandmother Myrtle Barker's house within the last year to build Walgreens Drug Store. Back in the mid 1940's and early 1950's my Uncle Wayne Barker had a Night Club and Restaurant in the back side of his Gas Sation and in the Basement called the 'Chic Chic Inn.' Folks came from far and wide to eat my Aunt Gen Barker's (Wayne Barker's wife) delicious country fried chicken. She pressure cooked it, so it tasted much like KFC Chicken. So the only thing still left standing that we (the Barkers) own is our old delapadated 3 story home just South of McDonalds. It is sad to see everything gone from how I remember it as a kid growing up in Old North Ogden. Nothing looks like it did when I was growing up in the 1940's, and 1950's in Old North Ogden.  I send my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Staley Family in their loss of Darlene. Dennis Chamberlain (4-29-09)
