Gene Ropelato

Gene passed away on August 7th 2004.  He lived in Taylor, and was a farmer.  A job that he loved.  He married Lee and had 3 boys and I girl. He said that he had 4 children by blood and 104 by love.  His wife said that the farm seemed to draw other children to them.  He gratuated from Weber State with a degree of Master Farmer.  He raised prize winning cows.  He won the U.S. Jaycee's Outstanding Farmer for the State of Utah, and was reconized National.  He also recieved an Award of Valor from the Weber County Sheriff's department for saving the lives of two girls who had overtured their jeep in a ditch full of water.  He felt that his greatest accomplishment was his children, all 108 of them.

I aways liked Gene. He was a good guy to know and be around in High School. He was nice and friendly and easy to get along with. He went into dairy farming since he grew up on the family farm. My step-Sister Karen Barker Koncar is the head of the Utah Dairy Council. She used know and work with Gene and mentioned him quite favorably many times. I believe she told me at one time he had one of the largest dairy farms in Weber County.

In high school Gene dated one of my good friends, Sharon Seamons, and I thought he was such a great guy. He had a soft sexy voice you never forgot and he took such good care of his brother, Art, who went blind before he died. Gene knew how to have a good time, make people laugh, and I thought he was truly one of the good guys. I'm so sorry to hear that he passed away. . . My condolences to his family and friends.
