Doug and I were friends and classmates starting in the 6th grade at Valley School which also served as our junior high school from 7th to 9th grade. Being an Ogden Valley resident ment we did a lot of activities on our horses which was always a lot of fun but I remember two things with Doug: one day during school in Huntsville we had gone over to the Sorensen Market to get an icecream cone and had then wandered up to the ball field across from the school to watch a ball game going on...don't remember who was playing. We were standing near the first base line, Doug closest to the batter and me on the other side, when the batter hit a line drive foul down the first base side and hit Doug square in the head. Doug droped like a rock. Funny but I don't remember how hurt he was but I do remember that he didn't get to eat his icecream cone. The other time was close to Christmas and we decided to go cut down our trees up in the mountains on an old bobsled that had been cut down to just its front axel and runners and had a platform attached to the axel. We hitched up one of Doug's family work horses to that old bobsled and headed for the hills. It was a great ride...one that was a lot easier than hauling out a Christmas tree over the saddlehorn of a horse and trying to find room for your body besides. Such memories but so enjoyable.
