School Story:
O.K., when I first started here- not much. But as I started remembering, the floodgates opened. Going way back up through the years, Marshall Helsel (since he's here) and the infamous trash can lid; Coy George and testing the "cush" factor; Ron Wright and "testing" fire hydrants; Mike Paxton's dad "taking care of" an inebriated heckler from the opposing team behind the bleachers; Scot Williams and I at the rumble at Lake Overholser with the PC West boys; Keith Cassell and I crashing a St. Mary's party (got to love those Catholic girls); Lisa Hodges's(class of '77) "nursing" skills at our graduation party. Probably better stop there before I get anybody else in trouble.
More memories--
Coach Stapp cranking up the heat as high as it would go in the practice wrestling room creating sort of a sweat fog; 18 straight minutes of three-man roll(how did we survive?); Half of the wrestling team getting food poisoning at the Clinton tournament; "Technical terminology" allowed in Ms. Vaughan's science classes(e.g. bovine fecal matter, schist, etc.); Then when Richard Hall's pet tarantula mysteriously appeared in her desk, she used a couple of those "technical terms" herself.
Oh yeah, I also remember my first game of PONG at Coach Stapp's apartment. Before Commodore64, before Atari cartridges, that was the only home video game. How exciting!!! Man, have things changed just a little bit.
Does anyone else remember the pep rallies, when we would have class yell competitions? As in-- "70 - 8, 70 - 8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 70 -8" Then there was the class of '79, who did a respectable job. But when the class of '80 came along, it was pitiful. That high-pitched "Eigh-ty, eigh-ty, 80, 80, 80, 80, eigh-ty" was just so weak. I don't think they ever won one of those competitions. I wonder if they even continued that one after the 70's.
