I met Barb in the 6th grade at Fontenelle, but really didn't get to know her until Miss Sobraske's 8th grade class at Monroe.  She was always so much fun..it was such a great year.  We stayed friends and spent alot of time together after we were married and my husband was deployed and Jerry was in the service. She had an apartment and a new baby, so it was fun to go to her place after work and talk.  She was the first to know I was pregnant with my daughter and I think I kept her on speed dial for the next couple of years.  Barb was always willing to help others, whether it was someone new to America who couldn't speak English or all those she taught and cared about through her job.  What a very special lady! Our families got together a few times when we came to Omaha or when they came to California and later Oregon.  My son and daughter thought her so funny, and as special as I did.  Our last time together was a two week cruise.  We had such a great time and it made me realize more than ever how much I wish we could have been next door neighbors.  I'll miss her wonderful laugh and my best friend, always.

I too have great memories of Barb in both church and school activities.  We met at a church camp outing and then found ourselves in the same class when Fontenelle School opened in the 5th grade and kept our friendship up all through the years.  We bonded especially in the 7th grade in Mrs. Stryker's social studies class around the year-long geography project where we took Blondie and Dagwood around the world in their Fiat (I think I still have the notebook--a work of art!).  She was a great friend and confidante with whom I processed many of our fun pubescent transitions.  I returned to Omaha for her marriage to Jerry Magner in 1967, and although we only saw each other a few times after that, we always stayed in contact each year through Christmas letters.  She had such a great spirit and wit, and I miss her greatly.
