Norman Burton

Former Oneida High School principal Norman H. Burton, 90, of Route 365, died March 4, 2008 in St. Lukes Hospital, New Hartford shortly after his admission from the Martin Luther Home, Clinton where he had been a patient for the past two months. A resident of the area for more than 60 years, Mr. Burton was a graduate of Pine Plains High School, Hartwick College where he received his bachelors degree, from Syracuse University where he received his masters degree and enrolled for additional graduate studies at Colgate and Alfred Universities. He married Ruth Tillotson in Pine Plains on June 26, 1941. Prior to his retirement in June of 1975, Norm served as the principal of Oneida High School for 23 years and began his career at Oneida as a mathematics and science teacher in 1948. Jean Holmes (Woodworth)

Had coach Peretta for Algebra in 9th grade. Drove him crazy. We both moved to OHS. First day of Russian History, before I even sat down, Coach sent me to Mr. Burton's office. Mr. Burton laughed, and sent me back, and Coach had to deal with me one more time. Loved that PrinciPAL.
