Oneida High School
Class of 1968

Miss Marcia P. Hildreth died on Dec 16, 2008. at 97 years old. Born in Truxton, NY, received her Bachelor degree from New York State Normal School of Syracuse; received her Masters degree from New York State University. She taught Social Studies for 41 years, retiring in 1973. She moved to Florence, S.C. in 1996 residing in Methodist Manor.
Miss Hildreth oversaw OHS Class of 1968 Yearbook Staff's antics, er...activities.

Some sad news: this morning's Oneida Dispatch (12/23) carried the obit of Marcia Hildreth. She was living in Florence, SC and passed away on December 16 at the age of 97.

As frumpy as she may have seemed when we were back in high school, I got to know her and Maurine Beck a little better once I came back to Oneida and started practicing law. She actually had a pretty good sense of humor, and she and Miss Beck could trade some real zingers. Not exactly LaVerne and Shirley, but pretty good just the same.

I remember Miss Hildreth counseling me; during our conversation she observed one of my weaknesses was procrastination. Later in the year I looked up its meaning. And, I've been meaning to post a comment on learning of her passing. Really, I've been meaning to get to it.
On a serious note, I was in Miss Hildreth's SS class and must admit she did her dammedest to get me through that class. She did...and...I did.
She must have done something right…97 years is a "life time".
