ONEIDA >> Charles W. "Chuck" Allen, 68, North Willow Street, died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, in Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse, where he had been a medical patient for the past ten days.

Born in Oneida, on Aug. 10, 1948, he was the son of Edward T. and Carrie Butler Allen, Sr. A lifelong resident of Oneida, Chuck was a graduate of Oneida High School and Mankato State College, where he received his bachelors degree in physical education and played on the football team.

Following graduation, Chuck was employed with the City of Oneida Youth Bureau as the assistant director for fifteen years. He then began employment with the Madison County Sherriff's Department as a deputy sherriff, where he retired with twenty years of service, but continued employment on a part-time basis until 2012.

He was of the Catholic faith, a member of the Order of the Owls, Oneida Nest 1606, an honorary member of the American Legion, Sherrill Post 230 and the Durhamville Veterans Club, bowled in several leagues and was a member and participated in golf leagues at Pleasant Knolls Golf Club and the Oneida Community Golf Club.

Surviving is his niece and her husband, Christine and William Peer of Huntington, Long Island; his two nephews and their wives, Michael and Joan Allen of Nantucket, Mass. and Mark and Kelly Allen of North Attleboro, Mass.; six great-nieces and great-nephews and a multitude of close friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held, at the convenience of the family, in the family plot at St. Patrick's Cemetery, this coming Spring of 2017. Contributions, in his memory, may be made to the Patient Fund at Rome Dialysis, 91 Perimeter Road, Rome, N.Y. 13440. Definitely remember Chuck from home room as one of the most pleasant guys around. Always mannerly and had a beautiful smile.
