CANASTOTA >> Russell J. Spink, 64, of Kyser Beach Road, passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2014, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.Born in Oneida on March 21, 1950, he was a son of Robert E. and June Wells Spink Sr. A lifelong resident of the area, Russ was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1968. He married Susan Koory in Wampsville on July 22, 1983.Prior to his retirement after 30 years of service, Russ was employed with Sears Roebuck Company as a catalog store owner for both the Oneida and Rome locations. After retirement, Russ was the owner and operator of Silver City Auto Sales in Sherrill. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1969-71 in Vietnam. While in the Army, Russ earned two Bronze Stars for his many acts of heroism in a combat zone. Russ loved fast boats and fast cars and in his earlier years, enjoyed woodworking. He was a ""true salesman,"" mastering the art of buying and selling. Russ was known to many for his dry and unique sense of humor and his one liners that were always perfectly timed.Surviving besides his wife Sue are: two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dianne and William Terrell of Sherrill and Kathleen and Robert Kratzat of West Carthage; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Diane Spink of Lebanon Center and Stephen and Sheila Spink of Chittenango; two brothers-in-law, Robert and Richard Koory; several nieces and nephews; numerous close and dear friends and his canine companion, Wilson.Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, from St. Mary's of the Lake Church, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles Currie, pastor. Friends may call at the church from 10-11 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
