DONALD STANFORD OBITUARY Donald A. Stanford Jr. obituary

Donald A. Stanford, Jr., 75, of Oneida, passed away on Sunday evening, March 5, 2023, at home under the care of hospice. He was born on February 9, 1948, in Oneida, the son of Donald A. and Jean (Ackerman) Stanford, Sr. He was a 1971 graduate of Oneida High School. On August 31, 1968, Don was united in marriage to Brenda Jean Collins in St. Patrick's Church. Brenda passed away on May 17, 2017. On November 6, 1968, Don was drafted to serve his country in the United States Army. On October 13, 1969, he received an honorable discharge after being injured. He was awarded the Purple Heart during his service. Don was a devout Catholic and a member of the Spirit of Hope Catholic Community attending St. Joseph's Church. He enjoyed fishing in his free time. Surviving are his five children, Shawn Stanford, of AZ, Michael (Colleen) Stanford, of Canastota, Aaron Stanford, of Oklahoma City, OK, Steven (Cindy) Stanford, of Oneida, and Sara Stanford, of Syracuse; two brothers, David (June) Ackerman, of Sherrill, Darryl Stanford, of Camillus; two sisters, Diane (Donald) Coons, of FL, and Deborah (Christopher) Miller, of Oneida with whom he resided; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by a brother Dale Stanford on June 22, 2014; three great-grandchildren, Temprince J. Croad, Patrick G. Croad, III, and Eliesse A. Croad, all on July 23, 2018; and his niece, Melissa Pedroncelli, on September 6, 2022. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023, beginning with a prayer service at 10:15 AM at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church, 121 St. Joseph's Place, Oneida, where the Rev. Christopher J. Ballard will officiate. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of one's choice.
