SARASOTA, Fla. - John Hunter Orcutt, 60, Fawnwood Circle, formerly of Oneida and Canastota, died Sunday, March 11, 2012 in the Sarasota Memorial Rehab Center.
Born on Sept. 26, 1951, he was a son of John L. and Margaret P. Colway Orcutt. John was a resident of Sarasota for the past two years, moving from Rochester, he also lived in Elbridge, Canastota, Buffalo, Binghamton, New York City, Brockport and Trenton, N.J.
Born and raised in Oneida, he attended St. Patrick Parochial School and was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1969. After graduating from the College of Brockport in 1973, John served for thirty-five years in a variety of positions, from claims representative to district manager, for the Social Security Administration. Upon his retirement in 2009, he was managing the largest service area in the country in Rochester.
John was an avid reader and was interested in many topics from the mundane to the provocative. He loved to discuss politics and current events. Mr. Oructt was also an amateur wordsmith and often shared his poetry and prose with his family. He possessed a knack for enteraining others and could easily make them laugh.
As the eldest brother in a family of twelve children, he was a constant source of sage advice, comfort, and support to his parents and siblings. Although John's life was cut short, his shared knowledge and tales were abundant. As a result, our remembrances of him are very much alive.
Surviving besides his mother, Margaret are six sisters, Roxann T. Moore (Joseph DeSantis) of New York Mills, Christine K. Oructt of Verona, Barbara A. Flores (Robert) of Green Valley, Ariz., Patricia A. Hubbard (Richard) of Cazenovia and Sarasota, Fla., Maureen J. Marris (Joseph) of Buffalo and Gene E. Oructt (William Barley) of Oneida; four brothers, Stephen J. Oructt of Oneida, Mark J. Orcutt (Catherine) of Toronto, Ontario, Thomas C. Orcutt (Lisa Hogan) of Cazenovia and Andrew W. Oructt (Maria) of Naples, Fla.; eleven nieces and thirteen nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Constance P. Orcutt in 2007.
