Harry Stanhope

Harry E. Stanhope, 60, of Kinsley Street, died Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, shortly after his admission as a medical patient, after being stricken while enroute to the facility.

Born in Oneida on Oct. 29, 1949, he was a son of Edward G. and Ginette Bradt Stanhope. Raised in the Oneida area by his late mother and late step-father, Frederick Burton, Harry was a graduate of Oneida High School and served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Jonel Jollie in Plymouth Church, Sherrill, on June 29, 1974.

Prior to his retirement due to a medical disability, Harry owned and operated Harry’s Towing and Recovery and had previously been employed with Kinney’s Kar Kare and Hanifin’s Tire and Service Center.

He was a life member of the Order of the Owls, Oneida Nest 1606 and the Bums Club, a member of the American Legion, Sherrill Post 230 and the Harley Davidson Owners Group (HOGS). Harry had a great love for hunting, softball and motorcycling. He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew Harry and was called his “little buddy” by him.

Surviving besides his wife, Jonel, is one son, Chad E. Stanhope of Sherrill; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Don Piersall of Coco, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert A. and Wendy Stanhope of Oneida and Ted and Cindy Stanhope of Sylvan Beach; his sisters-in-law, Michal Tate of Clearwater, Fla., Mimi Edwards of Vernon, Renee and her husband, Edward Chandler of Verona and his brother-in-law, John and his wife, Sandra Jollie of Sherrill; his close and sincere friends, Boco Williams and John Lawless; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Dungleman in 2005.
