Judy Houck (Murphy)

Judy lost her battle with breast cancer August 2, 2011. She will be missed.

Judy Ann Murphy, 59 years old, of Lakewood, died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011, at home, surrounded by family and friends, following a long illness. Born Judy Ann Houck, May 20, 1952 in Harrisburg, Pa., she grew up in Opa Locka, Fla., where she attended Opa Locka Elementary School, Westview Jr. High School, graduated with honors from Miami Carol City Senior High School, and then attended the University of Maryland working towards a degree in software engineering. She worked 32 years in the telecommunications field, where she held a range of positions for Verizon, including a patch-panel telephone operator, outside plant technician, business office representative and cable installation and repair technician before retiring as a fiber-optic engineer. Her work career moved her about the east coast residing and serving communities in Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and Maryland before retiring in Lakewood, NJ.

Judy is survived by her husband of 28 years, Frank J. Murphy; son. Bruce Paquin (Gabriella); siblings. Daniel L. Houck (Jean), David B. Houck (Melody), Nancy K. Sodlink (Scott); sister/brothers-in-law, Monica Henderson, Eileen Gardner, Michael Murphy, William Murphy (Patricia), and Regina York (Fred). She was predeceased in 1975 by a brother, James B. Houck; and in 2005 by her sister-in-law, Joanne Murphy.

Judy had a contagious positive attitude that made everyone around her feel, "yes we can!" She continually exampled unconditional love by meeting the needs of family and friends each day. If ever a situation appeared to impede or stop anyone, she would remind us to "build a bridge and get over it." She continues to give of her physical self by donating her body to medical research that others may have life and have it more abundantly.

At Judy's request, no service is to be held. She wishes to be remembered and honored by making a donation to the American Cancer Society breast cancer research.

Judy was truly an amazing person...a big help with the reunions and a courageous long-time battler against cancer. Unfortunately, the website that is mentioned here costs MONEY to post something about her on it. Sorry, I just don't have it. And anyway, why are they CHARGING for that?
