I remember Jonny as a little guy, even in 5th grade. One of my classmates was in charge of carrying from class to class, the little box that when plugged in, projected Jonny's voice, that he might attend school with us. I will never forget when a crabby elderly lady with bent fingers, (who we didn't like, and was substituting for Mr. Fritz), made Jonny, who was on a rare visit to school to visit us, remove his thin stocking hat which he wore following cancer treatments. I think that when we lost him, many of us felt our first real sadness for a good friend.
I, too remember the sadness of having someone our age with cancer. I don't believe I was in his class, but I do remember walking (in the freezing cold as I remember) as a class to his funeral.
