In high school Stan had a green car. It might have been a shop class project car, but I don't think it was the GTO that was also a class project. It seems like it was a Dodge or Plymouth, and was pretty bright green. Anyone else remember what it was? One night a bunch of us were headed north of Osage on highway 218 for somewhere. Suddenly, an oncoming car swerved into Stan's lane and sideswiped his nearly new car. I can remember him really cussing out whoever hit us. It seems like this was right in front of a house that coach Betts was living in, but could be wrong about that.

Another time, in winter 1969-1970 I visited Stan in Mankato where he was in college. I probably went up there with Tim Showalter and Elon Flack, but don't remember for sure. I do remember riding around in Stan's car, also with Connie Fox, with Abbey Road blasting on the stereo.

I think Stan came down to Ames to visit during VEISHEA in the spring of 1970. I was rooming with Tim, Lowell Kittleson, and Kris Dalhauser on the east side of town. Elon was living with his brother in Story City, but was an honorary roommate. We had a pretty good time there, as seen in the photo below. Stan is sitting in the 'Tub of Iniquity' that I had cut out from an old cast iron bathtub. I can really appreciate being in college at that time, instead of today.

You always had a smile on your face, a joke to share and a welcoming presence.  You left us, the Class of '69, all too soon.  Peace to you, Stan.

I was in Stan's car crusing main when he realized a police car was after us for some reason. He drove into the residential area and afer a few blocks we pulled into someones driveway and Stan said "Duck". So we were both laying on the front seat laughing -hoping we wouldn't get caught. Anyway that is a memory that has always stuck with me. I bet he is having a beer  with Lynn Minders now. I hope that song about Heaven and Beer is wrong...

I also remember Stan's green car.  It was Green Devil green!  I was going to school in Mankato the same time as Stan.  I didn't have a car so I could alway catch a ride with Stan to events (basically parties) and back to Osage on some weekends.  Stan was a very generous person. I see that Steve Condon posted one memorable ride we took with Stan.  "Here Comes the Sun" off the Abbey Road album was our favorite song.  We sang it often and loud.  Stan was fun to be around.  He will be missed.
