I started college during the summer of '69, but like a lot of young people, had more fun than academic success. It wasn't until almost twenty years later that I finally got a bachelor degree, in community health, with a minor in women's studies from St. Cloud State University. I followed that up a few years later with master level degrees in public health and social work (M.P.H. & M.S.W.] from the University of Minnesota.
I've had numerous jobs over the years—factory worker, bartender, computer operator, data entry supervisor, graduate research assistant, health educator, program coordinator—and have worked my entire adult life.
I worked for Mille Lacs County Public Health after receiving my B.S. After graduating from the U of M I worked for a couple of local non-profits, the Elk River ISD and eventually went to work for Hennepin County as a health promotion specialist. I retired in 2017.
I met my husband Glenn in 1973. He was a Finn from the Iron Range of Minnesota. He was also a teacher - special education. He retired early due to an illness and passed away in 2017.
We lived in Houston, Texas for a few years in the early 80s, otherwise have lived in or around the Twin Cities, mostly in Zimmerman which is about 45 miles from downtown Minneapolis.
I now live in Hopkins, MN, about five miles from where my son Mike and his family live. My oldest son, Matt and his family moved to Colorado in 2017. My oldest granddaughter and her family still live in Zimmerman.
I went on my first cruise to the ABC Islands a year and a half ago. I'm planning on a two week vacation in Alaska which will include a cruise back to San Diego in 2020. I'm also planning on going to the British Isles and Europe, especially the Czech Republic the following year.
I still love to read, go to movies, sew and knit, and of course spend time with my family. I'm in good health, believe I'm still with it mentally and am lucky to be able to laugh often.
