Funeral services for Richard L. Luse, 53, of Concord Township, will be held noon Monday at Brunner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., in Mentor.

Mr. Luse died Aug. 21, 2003, at LakeEast Hospital in Painesville.

Born June 19, 1950, in Tacoma, Wash., he was a lifelong Concord Township resident.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a 1968 graduate of Riverside High School, attended Lakeland Community College and graduated from Hiram College. He earned masters degrees from both John Carroll and Lake Erie College. Richard was an accomplished golfer, with a hole in one in Myrtle Beach and a double eagle at Thunder Hill. He won his flight last year at the DuPont World Amateur Championship. He collected antiques, matchbox cars, old watches and antique clocks. Mr. Luse belonged to several professional and fraternal organizations including the Painesville Elks, Legend Lakes Golf Club, and Quail Hollow. He was a 2000 graduate of Leadership Lake County. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson, Kendyll who called him "Poppy."

Mr. Luse was one of the managers/founders of the Power Systems Institute for FirstEnergy Corporation, creating college programs in conjunction with Lakeland Community College, Stark State College, Owens Technical and Youngstown State, involving associate degrees in Electric Technology. He was extremely proud of all the young men that had been recruited and trained to be linemen for the utility company. He was a FirstEnergy Employee for more than 22 years. Prior to that he worked at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant as a training supervisor.

Survivors are his wife of 19 years, Rose (Glovitch); daughter, Erika (Scott) Kolecki of Brooklyn; grandson, Kendyll Mayer of Brooklyn; sister, Roberta Glendhill of New Zealand; brother, Gerald (Judy) Luse of Eau Claire, Wis.; and mother, Carol Luse of Raymond, Wash.

His father, George Luse; uncle, Eugene Mackey; and aunts, Betty Mackey and Lovella Sawtelle, are deceased.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville.
