Topper (Edward Carl) Horack

Submitted by Dick Schump

“Topper” Horack, husband, loving father and grandfather passed away August 5, 2020. Topper led an adventuresome life. Born in Palo Alto where he started his swimming career at the local public pool. From there it was Foothill College then on to Long Beach State where he graduated with a teaching degree. Where ever he went, swimming was his priority. He spent 35 years teaching at Marina High School, coaching swimming/water polo most of them. 20? years on the life guard boat out of Newport kept him busy during the summers. Coaching and life guarding allowed him to travel to New Zealand, Africa as well as all over the USA where he made life long friends. He met his wife of 40 years, Marinka, on Little Carrona beach. They settled in Huntington Beach to raise their two daughters. Topper was most proud of his two wonderful daughters, Amanda and Allison. He was devoted to their happiness and success. These last few years his grandsons, “Little” Topper and Bowie have brought his unimaginable happiness. When Topper wasn’t doting over his grandsons, you could find him at Blackies sharing stories and good times. Topper was a wonderful, generous man and will be missed by many.
