I remember Ned as being the best guitar player at Paly by far, and by being at the forefront the "Rock and Roll" generation as the leader of his rock band riding the wave of this then new and exciting musical wave that was beginning to sweep young America. But unfortunately, I wasn't playing guitar until I took it up right after our graduation in '62, and so I never had an occasion to hang out with Ned and jam - only knew him admiringly from afar.

Flash forward two years and I'm between a rock and a hard place with this band I had going in college, and we had contracted with a Stanford frat to play at a big party they were throwing, and at the last minute my lead guitar guy and singer and bass player couldn't play.  So, I made a long shot call to Ned whom I hadn't seen in two years and never really knew that well and asked him if by any chance he could help me out.  Boy did he.  He played bass himself and talked two other musicians he knew to join us and play - and they were awesome, and for a band that never played together, I must say we rocked that party, and Ned had saved the day.

I never saw Ned again, but I'll always remember, the nice guy and great musician he was, and most particularly his kindness to me.

Play on, Ned.

Mike
