I've been mostly in the newspaper business and now I've got a news aggregator, THE LATEST, or TheLatest.com, I'm building. It never seems to be quite done.

What people like most about the site is that it's politically neutral. That is, we show how different news sources from across the spectrum are playing the same story, side-by-side.

Some years back I started a bunch of community newspapers in West LA, where I now live; before that, I worked at the LA Times; before that, the Kansas City Star.

School Story

I think we are lucky to have gone to Gunn when we did. It was an amazing time and place to be alive. We witnessed mind-boggling changes in culture, politics, music -- you name it. It was, I think, a time of hope.

I think the idealism we saw in the sixties and early seventies cleared the path for the greedy ones to take advantage of the situation. The world has become a darker place as a result. Maybe it was always this way and I'm just more aware now.

Things come and go in cycles. The anti-war protests of the late sixties didn't really result in the ending of the Vietnam War until 1975. So maybe we're on the verge of a positive breakthrough, we'll see.

While I really liked high school, I hear from others they had a difficult time -- there were too many cliques, social pressures, etc.

I hope I was a good friend to most; if I offended anyone in any way, I apologize. I look forward to seeing everyone in September.

To members of the Gunn High School Class of 1970:

We are holding our 50th Reunion Saturday and Sunday September 12 and 13, 2020, in Palo Alto.

We will gather Saturday for dinner and drinks at Coupa Café at Stanford Golf Course, starting at 7 p.m. Business casual.

Sunday we’ll gather on the Gunn Quad starting at noon for a picnic. Food trucks will be stationed close by.

Total cost for the weekend (doesn't include drinks Saturday night; also doesn't include food purchased from food trucks on Sunday): $80.

Lots more details will follow. For now, we ask that you do TWO THINGS:

Be sure you are on our EMAIL LIST by sending an email to Jo Wolf Vanderbeek at jov@vander-bend.com. She will be sending out regular updates as we know more.

SAVE THE DATE – and be thinking about a place to stay in the area September 12 and 13.

Please note: Our committee has made a conscious decision to NOT make an effort to upload personal profiles on Classmates.com and ClassCreator.com and other such sites. We will NOT be compiling a printed booklet with such information.

If you want to know what everyone has been up to, come to the reunion!

Emails from Jo Wolf Vanderbeek will be our primary means of communication.

So be sure to let Jo know your current email by reaching out to her at jov@vander-bend.com.
