I moved around quite a bit since high school. After Stagg I went to the American Academy of Art and graduated with a degree in graphic design and illustration. After graduation I worked with Rob Larson at a corrugated box company. My primary job was doing pre-press production work for the printing that goes on the box. Working the midnight shift was not how I wanted to spend my life but it wasn't too high pressure.
After working there for a while a friend of mine asked if I wanted to help him make a video game. It was part time and low budget (and I wasn't getting paid) but it was a nice creative outlet for me. Not long after that I was able to quit my job at the box company and work on our small game full time. That quickly turned into a small startup company with a few of us moving to Texas to be near the publisher.
After some drama I left that company to work with the publisher. I was reasonably happy there but when I learned of an opportunity in California to work for Sony on their new gaming platform I jumped at the chance. Eager to get the heck out of Texas I packed up my car and moved to San Francisco. I worked for Sony for many years, first in SF and then in San diego where I now live.
I am now part owner of my own game development company called BottleRocket Entertainment. We're up to nearly 90 employees and business is good. Although I do more management now than art it's still a very good gig. I honestly can't imagine what I would be doing if I wasn't doing this.
6 years ago I somehow managed to hook up with my girlfriend from when I was in college. After a call from out of the blue (and with some news she knew I would find funny) we met after 10 years of being apart. After a wonderful weekend it was clear we couldn't be apart. She moved to San Diego after finishing her law degree. We've been married now for 5 years in October. Our first child was born in March 2007. Our second baby is going to be here in November.
