In Memory

Bob Dostalek

Bob Dostalek

Martha Mulleavy sent this in a while ago. She thinks he died in the early 1970s. If anyone has any more information please send it along. Sorry for the delay but was hoping some news would come in. --Phil Denlsow

I've changed the Year of Death to 2008 as per the Ancestry.com listing that Janet wrote in about, and comments by others. Thanks. --Phil Denslow

I do remember Bob...nice person. His brother Roger was good friends with my brother, Jim. I recall Roger having a gray rocket front Studebaker. My husband, Mike was good friends with Bob and the Hastings Ranch boys.

Wally, I had the pleasure of seeing you almost everyday at Cross Country and Track practice. I remember you as a charming kid with a wicked sense of humor. So I am a bit baffled by your diatribe. I saw nothing inappropriate in the comments about Bob. Hoping it was an aberration.

I remember Bob Dostalek fondly. He could have become a famous comedian. I loved his humor. We were in an assembly watching a science movie about something, and a lesson about fly larvae came on the screen. Bob yelled out, "Betcha can't eat one!" We all laughed because we were thinking about the recent commercial at the time advertising some yummy snacks. I think it was Lays Potatoe Chips. Anyway, Bob used to come over to my house and visit me. He used to rub my back in class because he sat behind me. I remember him as a good friend. He was a very entertianing funny friend. I also remember Walter Elaesser as a great friend, so I don't understand Walter's latest comment.

I remember Bob especially from our sixth grade class. Most of the time he was very quiet. But once in a while he would make a single, dry comment, which was probably above most of our sixth-grade minds. Well, at least above MY sixth grade mind, since I had not yet developed that much of sense of humor. The specific comment that I remember, Bob delivered almost instantly after I raised my hand and said, "I have an idea!" "---Uh-oh!!!!" he said. I didn't appreciate then as much as I do now how hilarious that was. The timing. The tone of delivery of that important two syllable, almost nonsense word. I did not take it as a put-down on me, as Bob knew how to say something like that with pure, wry humor. At one of our class reunions, I thanked Bob for adding so much to our class with his humor. He seemed humbly appreciative and thanked me. He also remarked that a number of other classmates had said something similar to him. I wish I had a list of Bob's comments in class. I think I would appreciate them even more now.
