Gary Conklin sent word this morning that Bill Travis has passed away.  May he Rest In Peace.

 

 

Sharon Springs - William Travis, “Bill”, a resident of Sharon Springs since 2001 and previously of Hope Mills, NC, died on Friday, November 17, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a short illness.  He was 66.

Born in Peekskill on March 9, 1951, he was the son of the late William and Anna (Turner) Travis.

Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp., serving in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971.

Locally, he worked for Tyco Pharmaceuticals, Sharon Cemetery Association and was a self-employed carpenter during his time in the Sharon Springs area. He was a longtime member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics and often flew his model airplanes at the Fulton County Airport in Johnstown.  Fishing either alone or with friends was his favorite pastime.

Survivors include a son, Jason William Travis and his wife, Carol Pilkay Travis of Hope Mills, NC; two sisters, Lea and Anna Travis, both of Peekskill; three brothers, Steven of Verplank, John of Peekskill, and Howard of Poughkeepsie; and a grandson, Wolfgang William Travis of Hope Mills, NC.

He was predeceased by his wife, whom he married on November 20, 1981 in Peekskill, Kathleen (Whalan) Travis on November 20, 2015 and two brothers, William Travis in 1950 and Rick Travis in 2007.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.  Interment will be in North Carolina.

I'm so sorry to learn of Bill's passing. He was a beautiful soul and will be missed.
