Reunion
Posted Saturday, November 28, 2009 05:44 PM

The New Year will be upon us soon, and before we know, it will be 2010. I would like to see us starting to do some reunion planning. We can use this forum to post ideas for the reunion. So don’t be shy let’s here some ideas.

Ron,
Great idea to get started.
Let's hear from some people who would like to be part of a reunion committee. These volunteers will be crucial to produce a successful event.
I will be in Philly on Sunday June 6th and would like to see if that is a date that we can target for the reunion, if possible.

My idea of a great reunion would be to hold it in a hotel /convention center. It could be held over a weekend with any one who wants or needs to could get a room. We would rent a meeting room and get together for meals and just hang out and catch up with old friends. We could have one big dinner with a band or a DJ so if someone wanted to dance they could. If for example we held it in Atlantic City there would be other activities for groups to break out into if they wanted to. Attendees would not necessarily need to come for the whole weekend just come to what they wanted to.

Gary, Ron-
I like the idea of downtown, dinner and dance. but I wonder if our many of old neighbors in other states can afford it with the cost of a plane ticket and hotel. I don't claim to have a better solution so my comment is not to criticize.
How about a reunion picnic in June? We could hire a caterer to grille and some of us could bring side dishes. There are some well kept parks in Bucks County with covered seating.
Just throwing this out there for others to join in the conversation

Connie,
I think for the people who have to fly in that some will and some will not. Once here, whoever does come in would attend whatever is setup.
I wonder if it is too much to have a Sat evening dinner and a daytime picnic on Sunday.
I think that having a band or DJ and dancing might not be a good idea. Mostly, people will want to reconnect with and talk with everyone they haven't seen in years.
I had a fraternity reunion 5-years ago and we had it at Charlies Pizzeria where we all ate growing up.
It was very simple and everyone had a blast just seeing everyone and catching up.
Maybe we can setup some kickball games?
Anyway, all ideas are great and will be put down for a committee to consider.

Hi GAry:

I agree with you. It's a place that we can all relate to. It can hold at least one hundred people and there is ample parking. I still go to Charlie's at least onece a month as it is only about 10 miles from home. If we were in Houston, Papa deax!

Mark,
I will go to Charlies when I am in Philly but do not think it will work for a reunion.
There will be more than 100 people at the neighborhood reunion.
Pappdeaux is still here but next time you are in Houston I will take you to some other favorites.
Ragin Cajun is our favorite Cagin place; Tampicos for Mexican style whole redfish on a wooden plank and Picos for any other Mex Mex food.
And there is Laredo Taqueria where on a nice day we'll pickup some spicy chicken and/or beef tacos (soft tacos) and take them down the street to sit with Howard Hughes for lunch.

There is a great Amusement park..about 2 hrs from philly...
near bloomsburg pa. Called Knobles...there is no charge to get into the park..and there are picnic areas to rent...
Just a thought....

I have heard of this place Knobles, some of my friends at work camp there. It is reported to be a nice, clean, family run park. I am not into camping but as long as there is a full service hotel near by, that can handle handicapped persons, I would be down for something like that. I am told that this place books up fast!

Sam, Email Gary, get on the reunion committee, you can help! I did already and I am on stand by till some more members step up. Can you get some electronic brochures from Knobles and Email them to Gary?Very Happy

I've been to three HS reunions. Having a reunion in a ballroom or such at a hotel or at least close is a really good idea for drawing folks like me who have moved away from the area and do not have folks to stay with nearby.

I'm planning on coming to Philly mid May - no precise date yet but I could always alter my time frame. I'm just coming back to show the wife the old stomping grounds. Would love to attend a reunion...

Gary, et al: Dugan's on the Boulevard (Ilona Kellers) does a nice catering job. I just attended a wedding there. Plenty of free parking, hotels are not far, price is reasonable and I can get a DJ very cheap if you want one. Keep me informed.

Thanks, Judy Rosetsky

Judy,
Thanks!!!
How many people can they serve for an event?

That would be a great location and people there the day before or after could go to Charlies, too.

Actually Gary, I think it is a great location. Their telephone number is 215-333-7900 and the website is www.dugansbanquets.com. Holds 600 people. Check the website out and if you need anything, let me know.

I for one would rather not be too enclosed, and not have any outlets for spouses,etc.. Still think a picnic would serve better.. That's of course we could not be at some large resort,

Right on the home page there is a link to see who has registered to come to the reunion so far.
Also, there is a link to everyone's profile.
