Barbara was a skinny funny kid who sat in front of me next to Janie Landau in Mr. Ettinger's chemistry class. The two of them were great friends and I loved to provoke them in class to get their dual reactions ("Puleeze be quiet!")
She had a quick wit and loved to laugh. She was a good student who asked good questions.
I regret not keeping in touch; she was a realtor in Florida?
From the 93rd graduating class Yearbook of Germantown High School regarding Barbara Laykin:
"If you are looking for a gal who has everything, it's "Bobbi." Her leadership and ambition coupled with her charming personality will make Barbara a sure winner. Congratulations and sincere wishes for success and happiness from the 93rd for your outstanding publication of the January '63 [year]book."
Barbara participated in numerous extra-curricular activities at GHS, and she was a member of the Honor Society and a G-Pin Award winner. I was both honored and priviledged to have Barbara be my/our senior prom date. We kept in touch over the years until she told me she was "lucky to be alive." After that, I tried to continue to communicate with her but was unsuccessful. I remember Barbara as a vibrant, intelligent and very friendly person who was always helping others. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
Barbara and I shared a very close friendship as young teens. We were always together in school, on weekends and frequent visits to her family's shore home. We were co-editors for our class yearbook and shared so many experiences at Leeds and GHS. Our paths eventually became more distant, although we did correspond briefly- once by e-mail - I believe it must have been shortly before she passed away, but she did not speak of her health. I have always and still cherish the beautiful heart she gave me for my Sweet 16 charm bracelet. I very much regret we lost touch throughout most of our adult lives -that is truly one of my deepest regrets in life. But I will always remember her with much love.

Rest in peace, Barbara. I will miss you.

So sad to learn of Barbara's passing.
