A Taste of Mingus:
Recipes and Stories from Mingus Mountain Camp

A group of members of an Arizona United Methodist congregation in Paradise Valley were looking for a way to increase the awareness of the denomination's Mingus Mountain Camp in Arizona located midway between Prescott and Jerome.

The group came up with a plan to publish a book that would share the history, lore and recipes from the camp. The members researched the camp, located photos in the camp's archives and interviewed past camp managers. The group wrote the text, tested the recipes and Mingus Press  designed and published their book.

Recipes and Stories from Mingus Mountain Camp lovingly celebrates the history, setting and stories of the camp nestled in a forest atop Arizona’s Mingus Mountain.

With a foreword by Arizona Official State Historian Marshall Trimble, the book shares beloved recipes of the camp, archival photographs from the camp’s history, John Chidester’s stunning photography of the camp and its mountain setting, and Mary Sue Ingraham’s narrative about the creation of the camp, its traditions and development, and stories of the pioneering people who built and have tended it.

All of the work done on the book—research, writing, book design, photography—was gifted by volunteers as a labor of love.

Donors funded the cost of the book’s printing so that all proceeds from book sales go directly to camp scholarships.

A $20 price was set for the full-color, 8.5 x 11" 100-page wire-O bound book A Taste of Mingus.
