IN MEMORY OF

DANIEL "DAN" MCINTYRE

OCTOBER 1, 1950 - JANUARY 1983

The following pictures have been provided by Danny's son James.  Since he was so young when his father died, he would love if any of you have a story or photos to share with him.  You can either post them here and I will make sure he gets them or you can connect with him on Facebook directly.

Terry Martin

James,

My name is Terry Martin and went to school with your dad from 8th grade through high school.  My memories of him revolve around baseball, both playing against him in Little League and with him on the WHS baseball teams.

Your dad was one hell of an all around ball player, but excelled at pitching.  We didn't have radar guns back then but I'd swear he threw in the low 90's, which back then was some serious heat!  Your dad was responsible for one of my high school baseball highlights - we were playing an inter-squad game and I was up to bat against your dad and managed to eek out a seeing eye single up the middle.  I was so pleased that I was able to get the bat on the ball against a pitcher like him.

Anyway, I hope this sheds some more light on what your father was like.

Take Care,

Terry Martin

Debbie Dorius

From Karen Holmgren (Thompson)

I met Danny when our family moved into the house on West Keim Drive.  We were most happy to see they had 5 kids and we had 3.  I knew Jim, Jerry, Sue, Barb and of course - Danny!   Danny and I were the same age and attended Maryland Grade School together.

He and Barb gave me the nickname of Carrot Top - our families use to have BBQ's at your grandparents house - Del and Gus - becuase they had the above ground swimming pool.  Sometimes, if the adults drank enough they used to let my brother and your Dad throw darts at his wooden leg!!!

Your Dad played little league during the summers and was on my dad's team a couple of times.  He was a good player and started his pitching career which carried on to Washington HIgh School.   When I would have my girlfriends spend the night, he would have some of his friends hang out --- made for fun times!

He was a good friend - like another brother to me

After everyone married and left - I remember meeting you once or twice when you were at your grandparents' house and for some reason I remember your Dad worked a short time for us - when I believe in lived out west.

The McIntyre house was the house everyone went to in the neighborhood - the door was always open to everyone!!!

Thomas Blackshear

Hello James,

My name is Thomas Blackshear.  I played baseball with Dan at WHS all four years while attending high school there.  I was also a pitcher, however, I never started a game but typically went in relief or closed out the game.  I got to know Dan mostly while running wind sprints.  While the rest of the team was practicing the pitchers were supposed run a minimum amount of sprints from foul line to foul line in the outfield.  We would run one length and then walk one length and so on.  Durning the walk back, Dan an I would talk mostly about girls, the coaches, major league players and other times just contemplating the universe.

Dan was a great player and loved the game.  He was a fierce competitor and dedicated to the team.  I know there were times his arm was really hurting but he never let on about it ever!  Moreover, I never heard him say an unkind word or chided a team-mate for making an error...he would work that much harder.

Those are the things I remember the most about Danny.
