Barbara D. Hicks (Krohn)

Barbara D. Hicks (Krohn)

Barbara (Hicks) Krohn, 69, of Peoria, Arizona passed away on October 4, 2020.  Barbara was born on March 15, 1951, to George and Betty Hicks in Buffalo, New York.

She, her brother George and parents moved to Phoenix in 1957. Barbara attended Ocotillo Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in 1969: She was a waitress at Guggy's in Christown Mall, where she met her husband, Donald. She also worked at Shamrock "The Rock" Foods.

In 1986, Donald and Barbara moved to Colorado for cooler weather. Shortly after, she and Donald went into business with Dan and Sandy Krohn, forming Krohn's Coverings Inc.

In 1994 Barbara was diagnosed with Muscular Sclerosis and retired from KCI in 1997.

After making a decision to move back to The Valley of the Sun, the business was sold in 2001.

Don and Barb then moved onto a property that allowed them to have large animals. They kept it small though, and started a Miniature Horse ranch and had chickens . They bred and showed the Minis but heat was hard on Barbara, so they moved to Dewey, Arizona so they could expand their ranch. Barbara loved to ride in the horse buggy with Donald and help feed the chickens.

In 2010, after her husband Donald passed away, Barbara moved into Sunrise Adult Care Home. She was loved by all her caregivers, her family as she often referred to them, and will be missed immensely.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E Krohn Jr, her parents George and Betty Hicks, a sister-in-law Decky Runnels and mother-in-law Jeanette Krohn.

She is survived by her brother, George, his wife Alica, nieces Jessica and Emily, her father-in-law, Donald Sr., aunt Norma Davidson and cousin Kathy Klein, sisters-in-law Debra (Mike) Howard and Deone (Bob) McClure and brothers-in-law Dan (Sandy) Krohn and Bryan Runnels. She had many loving nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Barbara will be laid to rest with Donald at Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale.

Barbara was always so kind and true to herself in high school.  Everytime I saw her, she'd look me right in the eye and give a shy "Hi".  You were a cool chick, Barb.  So sorry you had to suffer through MS.  RIP
