John R. Martin

John R. Martin

John R Martin was born on June 14,1951.  He died on June 3, 2021 from a defective heart valve.

John met his wife Christine Johnson (Class of 1969) at Washington High School.

John is survived by wife Christine (Johnson); Daughter Jennifer; Son Jonathan; Grandchildren Chelsea, Jacob and Lilly; 2 brothers Harvey & Joe; 2 sisters Kandi Royer and Nancy Salcido and loving nieces & nephews.

This is from Ken Costello:

"John and I have been friends since Ocotillo Elementary School. In college, Pete Ulbricht, myself, Brian Ballance, and John would meet regularly for some friendly poker games. Throughout the last several decades he would come to a combined birthday party for myself, Pete Ulbricht, Brian Ballance, Dick Ostermeier, and his wife, Chris (also a '69 WHS graduate). Despite enduring symptoms of congestive heart failure, John came to our last birthday celebration in April 2021. We were very glad he came. John was soft-spoken but had a witty sense of humor that contributed to fun times whenever he was around".

Sorry to hear of the loss of John. I remember him well. He was quiet but ever so nice. My heart goes out to his lovely wife and family. Bless all their hearts.

I am indeed sad to hear that John is no longer with us.  I was a classmate with John starting at Ocotillo.  For awhile, a group of us hung out together (to include Ken Byrd, myself  and his brother Rick).  A memory would be once on a sleepover at the Martin's house, John thought it would a be a great joke on me by putting one of his "pet" snakes in bed with me while I slept!  Quite a wake-up moment for me with John dying with laughter as I woke up totally freaked out.  That memory will go with me until I die. Cheers.
