June 25, 1951 - January 10, 2019

Memorial mass will be held at 11am on Wednesday, January 16, 2019

St Jerome Catholic Church

10815 N 35th Avenue Phoenix, AZ

Our beloved science teacher and assistant football coach, Steve Porianda, passed from this life on Thursday, Jan. 10.  Coach Porianda worked at Notre Dame Prep from 2004 to 2017.  He was a mentor and inspiration to his students and colleagues.  His impact on the field and in the classroom was profound and lasting.  In his final months, he was able to watch his beloved Saints compete in the AIA State playoffs.  The seniors in the Class of 2019 were the final class of players coached by Porianda.

It is with great faith that we believe Coach Porianca will rise with Christ and hear those precious words

"Well done, my good and faithful servant"

"The Snake", as he was fondly called since his WHS days worked at WHS from 1973-2004.  So many wonderful things have been written about him, but the following words were consistent throughout.....  listener, mentor, teacher, friend, father, husband, coach, humor, lover of Credence Clearwater Revival, respected, strict, kind, observer, PoriandaLand, great smile, "A Life Well Lived".

Cruising the alleys and streets downtown looking for vagrants, circling Monroe St. waiting for Deadman to take his evening stroll. Checking out Carol Arms floor by floor, dining at the Mandarin. All nighters at Sky Harbor. Our private tour of Phx. TRACON at sunrise. Hanging out at Farmers Liquors waiting for Stinky and Bugman to show up, trading the Taco Bell boys beer for burritos. Half pint Friday’s! Go cart racing across the street from JD’s. “The Great Liquor Store Heist” production. Nogales Bullfights. Being DJ for Steve and Pete when they played Name That Tune. Truly amazing! Sitting around the Rotunda after lunch solving world problems and social ills. The “Paranda” brothers are two uniquely talented and wonderful people I shall never forget. They made a huge impact on my life as I know they did many others fortunate enough to cross paths with them.

I thought of you immediately, Larry, when I heard of Steve's passing.  You two were so close in high school.  I didn't know Steve after high school but I am so sorry to hear of his passing.
