James K. "Jim" Thomas

James K. Jim Thomas

James K. Thomas 62, of Phoenix, AZ passed away Sunday morning, June 16, 2013 at his home after a brave battle with lung cancer. Jim was born premature in Los Angeles on May 12, 1951 to Jeanne and Duane Thomas. He grew up in Phoenix and attended Maryland Grade School, Washington High and Glendale Community College.

His father wanted him to work with him at Engineered Sales (water handling company); however, he felt construction was his best direction. After a few hot summers and needing a car, his thoughts began to change and he decided to work with his father. A born sales person and all around nice guy, one with integrity and charm, he was soon making a name for himself and paving his way with city and state decision makers. In 2001, Duane passed away leaving his beloved company to Jim. The company continued its upward direction and surpassed annual goals. He was an active member of the AZ Water Assn. and was highly respected in the industry.

In his youth, he raised pigeons and was President of the Pigeon Assn. and became an excellent golfer. He loved cars (faster the better), Chinese Pugs, Racing RC cars (winning an office full of trophies) and winning at Scrabble. His life was always centered around his family, sharing good times, holidays and special events.

He is survived by his mother, Jeanne, sister and brother in law, Jeannette and Gordon, daughter, Terri, and her four children, Ashley, Alisha, Austin & Aftynn. He was an extraordinary person who came into this world on Mother’s Day and passed on Father’s Day. Jim was loved by all and will truly be missed.

Memorial service will be held at A. L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary on Friday, June 21, at 11:00 a. m. at 710 West Bethany Home Road. A Celebration of Life will follow at Dave and Terri’s home in Arcadia.
