Samuel Coughenour

Samuel Coughenour

Samuel “Sam” Charles Coughenour, at age 66, was called home on Monday, July 9, 2018. Sam was born on February 13, 1952, in Fairmont, West Virginia, and has two surviving brothers, Allen Kenneth Coughenour and James Robert Coughenour II, and niece, Susan Elizabeth Cooper. He is now reunited with his mother, Margaret Martha Emma Coughenour, and his father, James Robert Coughenour who preceded him in death. Sam never married and had no children, but he was a beloved uncle and brother.

Sam graduated Valedictorian from Washington High School in 1970. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Arizona State University. Sam worked for the City of Phoenix IT Department for over thirty years and retired in November 2008.

Sam was an avid sports fan of Arizona sports which included the Cardinals, Diamondbacks, and ASU Sun Devil Football. He had season tickets and never missed the chance to travel to Tucson to watch his Devils beat the UofA Wildcats. Go Devils! He loved to vacation in Las Vegas, Laughlin, and Lake Tahoe. He and his brother, Allen, would go to Reno, NV, for March Madness, and he never missed a chance to see his favorite band, The Moody Blues, in concert.

Sam was a very giving person and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Services will be held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.

The service will be at West Resthaven Funeral Home, located at 6450 West Northern Avenue, Glendale, Arizona.
