Stephen Owen Childress, passed away Friday, June 26, 2009, at his home in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 22, 1952, to Marie and Owen Childress. A fifth generation Arizonan, he attended Orangewood Grade School, Washington High School and Glendale Community College.
During his senior year, Steve advanced to the Unlimited Finals of the Arizona State High School Wrestling Tournament. Steve was employed by the Del E. Webb Corporation for 26 years. He transferred to their Las Vegas office in 1989, and was currently employed by Arizona Tile in Las Vegas.
Survivors are his wife, Eva; parents, Marie and Owen; son, Martin; daughter, Kennedy; son, Matthew (Toni); daughter, Lisa (David) Olguin; brothers, Kip (predeceased) and Paul; grandchildren, Antonio, Molly, Mazie, Logan and Analicia; nieces, Emily and Kimberly; aunt, Helen (Bud); the Aepli cousins; and numerous lifelong friends.
Funeral service will be at noon Tuesday, July 7, at the Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, in Phoenix, (602) 840-5600. A celebration of life reception will follow the service. It was sadly my privlige to assist Steve's family in arranging a service for him in Phoenix.
Big O, his dad, gave me a credit card and said "take care of everything." I hope I did...........
Since his death I have assisted Steve's mom, Marie, as his father and brother Paul have since passed.
I remain in contact with Meta Abdoo Berg, the mother of she and Steves children.
