Some thoughts for my friend Howie:

Somewhere there is a picture of me and Howie holding up an amazing fantastic chocolate cake that his professional cake making mother made for my 12th birthday, but I couldn't find it. (or is it an 8 mm home movie - my dad took a lot of those). I remember his mother well. She was very kind, and I enjoyed being doted on at Howie's house.  Once we hiked from his house all the way up Maryland Ave to what was then called Squaw Peak (is it still?), then we climbed to the top of the peak, then walked home back along Maryland. I remember soaking our tired feet in his pool. We also rode our bikes to North Mountain Park and raced our bikes dangerously down the hill. That summer between 7th and 8th grade we walked barefoot to Christown Mall almost every day - only got kicked out once for having no shoes.  His hair that summer was what passed for "too long" back then, and I remember a couple of grown men jerks, at Mary Coyles ice cream?, loudly asking Howie if he was a boy or a girl, and a few other jerky comments.  I was really angry, but Howie shrugged it off.  He was easy going, and kind like his mother.

Didn't see him much in high school but do remember driving with him once when he played an 8-track of the the Moody Blues, "Days of Future Passed" album. The first time I'd heard it. I still play it occasionally. The last time I saw him was in college at a Long John Baldry concert at Big Surf (yes JB came to Arizona). I don't remember if I went with him or just met him there, but we had a good time. He really got into it.

It's a shock to learn he died so young. Does anyone know how?

Is there still a big surf out there? Used to go sometimes with John Addlesperger, and other friends. John's brother managed the place and if he was on duty, we'd get in free. Anybody know where John is?

Big Surf still here. Bigger and better. I remember writing my bike with Barry Alkire and Steve Wallace down Missouri Rd to 24th st and then down to Sky Harbour Airport to watch planes takeoff and land.

Dear David and Gary,

Sharing your thoughts on Howard is so appreciated.....these remberances are part of the " reward" of putting us all back in touch with one another.

Sadly we have lost far too many classmates, some quite young. We attempt to post their obituaries, when we can locate one, but that isn't always possible.

As to John Addlesperger....we think Perger is in Wyoming somewhere......

Thanks Gary.  Sounds like early inspiration for a career in the Air Force at Sky Harbor.  Remember when anybody could run around the airport.  We used to go to the deck where you could watch the planes.

Thanks Posey.  Wyoming sounds perfect for John.

Does anybody know what happened to Howie?  I tried an Internet search and couldn't come up with any information on him at all.

Hi Harry.  I spent quite a while looking also.  I think I found something about him living in California and being a truck driver.  Couldn't find anything about his death or an obituary.  Would also like to know more.
