Obituary: Sandra Lynne "Sandy" Gresko
- September 20, 1950 - September 28, 2010
Sandra Lynne "Sandy" Gresko of Mesa, Ariz., passed away at the age of 60 on Sept. 28, 2010, after an 18-month struggle with lung cancer.
She was a dearly loved daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to nurturing her family. Her legacy of service will forever be remembered.
Her testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ was deep and vital to her soul. She was deeply touched by the prayers and faith of the people around her, particularly as she faced the great trial of cancer. She said, "Somehow when there doesn't seem to be anything you can do to help the problem situations in your life and in the lives of others you love, prayer is the one thing that brings comfort and assurance that you are doing all you can when you offer a prayer. Prayer is a powerful thing... It has saved me many times during the last year. I am grateful and humbled by the prayers and faith of others in my behalf. I pray all the day long. And I am thankful for the testimony I have of prayer. I would be lost without it. "
Sandy is survived by her husband John; five children, Kris Crowther (David) of Provo, Utah; Steve (Natalie) of Reno, Nev.; Aaron (A.J.) of Gilbert, Ariz.; Nathan (Marne) of Mesa, Ariz.; and Heather Morrison (Anthony) of Henderson, Nev.; 20 grandchildren; her parents, Gerald and Lois Nehmer of Mt. Pleasant, Utah; and her siblings, Steve (Sally), Geraldine and Bill (Jenny). She is preceded in death by her son, John David.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at the LDS Church, 2244 W. Keating, Mesa, Ariz. A viewing will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. just prior to the funeral services. Sandy will be interned at the Mesa City Cemetery. The grave will be dedicated immediately following the funeral services.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that donations be made to the HealthWell Foundation, www.healthwellfoundation.org. This organization generously covered the sizable co-pays for Sandy's medical treatment while she fought the cancer - a tremendous blessing to her and her family.
