I am moving to Sheffield, Alabama, Friday May 23rd, 2025. Sheffield, along with Muscle Shoals and Tuscumbia next door, and Florence across the Tennessee River, together are known simply as "The Shoals." Nashville was great for 10 years and East Tennessee before that but it looks like the Tennessee portion of my adventure is going to be capped at near 20 years.
My first encounter with northwest Alabama was back in the mid 1970's. More recently I've played blues gigs down there. Like Nashville, Muscle Shoals is deep rooted in music and recording history but unlike Nashville it is still small and laid back. Living in Alabama was never a likelihood for me but it was also a notion that I never discounted.
