Sister Ruth Bearer celebrated 50 years as a Sister of St. Joseph. The information is from the website http://www.stjoseph-baden.org/Bearer.asp

Sister Ruth Bearer regularly reflects on her community's historical documents to renew a commitment to live out a relationship with God through relationships with others.

An associate director of Focus on Renewal, Sister Ruth puts that prayer into practice while serving at the organization's Sto-Rox Family Health Center where needy families in the McKees Rocks/Stowe Township neighborhoods can receive health and dental care in a compassionate environment.

For inspiration in her16-year ministry, Sister Ruth often turns to a favorite passage: "I would be silent, now, my God, and expectant . . . that I may receive the gift I need so I may become the gifts others need."

She also has shared her gifts as a social worker at Georgetown University Hospital, the founding supervisor with the Diocese of Pittsburgh's parish social services ministry program, and a classroom teacher at various schools, including St. Raphael's in Morningside and St. Joseph's in Natrona.

Each new ministry and each daily call represent a "gradual growing into an ever-deepening awareness of the faithfulness of a God who loves," Sister Ruth says. "God usually works very slowly and gently in my life, nudging me along step by step, gifting me occasionally with the realization that I am in a place I have not been before."

For three decades, Sister Ruth has creatively chronicled her life experiences in a compilation of poems called "Ruth's Ramblings," which often serves as a source of reflection for her. An avid reader, Sister Ruth enjoys spiritual, historical and biographical works.

Sister Ruth draws strength not only from the apostolic work of the founding Sisters, but also from the strong commitment of "our young Sisters who impress and inspire me" with their response to God's presence. She envisions that their journeys will be much like hers - a challenge filled with peace and joy.
