Sr. Mary Ellen Connors

CONNORS SISTER MARY ELLEN, CSJ
84, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Joseph in her 56th year as a Sister of St. Joseph of Baden. The daughter of the late Patrick and Nellie Driscoll Connors, Sister Mary Ellen entered the Congregation from St. Canice Parish, Pittsburgh. Sister's first ministry, which began in 1956, was in teaching. She was at St. Titus School, Aliquippa, Quigley High School, Baden, and then at St. Raphael High School, Morningside from 1957-67. It was in 1967 that Sister Mary Ellen first served as Secretary to the Superior of the Sisters of St. Joseph. For 33 years Sister's skills as an Administrative Assistant were a blessing to the Leadership of the Sisters of St. Joseph. Sister served as Secretary for the Superior from 1967-1993, and for the Congregational Moderator of the Leadership Team from 1993-2001. After Sister's retirement, she volunteered in the Benefits Office at the Motherhouse. Sister Mary Ellen will be remembered for the professional quality of her clerical expertise, her keen sense of humor, and her kind presence to others. Sister was preceded in death by her sister, Sister Monica, who was also a Sister of St. Joseph. Sister Mary Ellen is survived by nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden.  Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 4 p.m. in the Motherhouse Chapel in Baden. Burial will follow in the Sisters' Cemetery on the Motherhouse grounds. Donations in the name of Sister Mary Ellen may be sent to the Sisters of St. Joseph Memorial Fund, St. Joseph Convent, 1020 State Street, Baden, PA 15005.
