In his spare time, he aided in the planning and development of religious and educational institutions among the Mapuche Indians of the Barrio of Pudahuel outside the capital city of Santiago. Thomas had a passion for literature and poetry and was the author of numerous poems, short stories and book manuscripts, as well as a number of Editorial Comments for the Progress Bulletin and Daily Report newspapers. He was constantly searching out the historical significance of literature, religion and philosophical evolution as they applied to the individual in contemporary events. A deeply spiritual man, Thomas sought to develop new and effective personal ways to be of the greatest service to God and mankind. He believed that the spirit of service is best found through fellowship with widely diverse i ndividuals who shared a common desire to know and love God. Though Thomas was taken to his heavenly home at a relatively young age, he will be best remembered by those he cared for as a constant source of continual encouragement to all he met. He will be remembered for always quoting that it is not the quantity of life that one has, but the quality of life that one applies to life itself.
