Federal Government College, Port Harcourt is a public co-educational institution founded in January 1972 by the then Federal Military government of Nigeria to provide secondary level education foe Nigerian citizens. It falls into the first generation of unity schools.

The College effectively took off on 23rd January, 1973 at the premises of Grammar School (now College of Arts and Science) Rumuola, Port Harcourt with Mr Banjoko as the Principal. He enrolled students into lower forms (Junior Secondary) and lower six forms.
