Comments:

After college, I worked in retail management for Woodward and Lothrup for several years and married Bill Johncox’70.- Bill and I parted ways a bit later, and I moved on to volunteer in the Education Department of American University and then began my years as a teacher at The Potomac School, McLean, VA. After private day school teaching, my husband, Bill Doswell, and I held administrative and teaching positions in two boarding schools in the Berkshires, Massachusetts.

While traveling for work in 1992, I was in a multiple trauma auto accident. I transitioned into the field of brain injury and have had the opportunity to serve on a number of boards, including the Brain Injury Association of America. I have subsequently traveled throughout the United States as an advocate for those with brain injury and became a certified brain injury specialist. I served as the first Western Regional Manager of the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts and left in 2014 when we relocated to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. I currently sit on Florida’s Brain and Spinal Cord Advisory Council.

My mother, father and brother (Bruce KELLEY) passed away a few years ago and our home on Falls Road has been sold. My Potomac connections are few now, but Bill Johncox, and his family came to a memorial event for my mother and I had a chance to catch up with them and relive some wonderful days past. I have endless memories of Old Potomac, new Potomac, the building of Herbert Hoover and Churchill, and the move from Potomac Elementary to the "new schools."

I have a wonderful life and I have had two very different careers. I remain involved in art, in great part due to the superb instruction and encouragement from Mrs. Simpson. Larry Jeweler's biology pops up frequently as I married a biology teacher and everyone knows that there is always something biological to comment upon! I had the joy of being an advisor to student governments in two schools and drew upon all I learned as a student in that position, at Churchill. The classmates I had from various parts of the world taught me to value the diversity of thought, ethnicity and culture that I continue to appreciate in my friendships, today.

I have returned to watercolor painting with a new collection of works influenced by Martha’s Vineyard, my love of the sea and mountains. My new website showcasing current works will be complete in the summer of 2019.

Lastly, I have two fabulous daughters, sons in law, and grandchildren who push me to continue learning, exploring and sharing my talents as I move forward on life's journey. I will be looking for the all of you along the way!

All my best to my classmates of '70,
Suzanne

Betty~ I saw one of your postings and time flew backwards to our early days at Potomac Elementary and being part of the “Old Potomac” group. What a wonderful era of childhood explorations, and close friendships. Your gentle kindness was always appreciated by many!
Wishing you well.

I am sad to learn of Jack's sudden passing.  Together with Charlie and Bruce, we were all classmates beginning at Potomac Elementary and shared the best of an "Old Potomac" childhood. My dad called upon Jack's when our farmhouse needed special care, and more than once, Jack rode along.  We lost touch after Churchill, but in those early years Jack was always a friend.

I am grateful that Jack brought his infectious smile and caring attitude to my childhood. May his family celebrate his goodness as they pass it on in their own lives.

I am sad to hear of the passing of my childhood friend, Leonard Proctor. Leonard and I first met at Potomac Elementary and shared school years through Churchill.  He was the quintessentially well-dressed person whose caring and inclusive attitude benefitted many.  I have happy images of him running a relay at Field Day when we were young, clearing the dance floor with gusto at Churchill, and our last impromptu meeting in the Safeway parking lot when we recognized old friends.  He and his father shared numerous "Old Potomac" events that I attended with my family and we certainly ran into each other at Mitch and Bill's on many occasions. My deepest sympathy to Leonard Sr. as I stop to celebrate the life of Leonard, Jr.  In Peace... [Suzanne Kelley Doswell-Palm Beach Gardens, FL]
