Warrant Officer 1 Daniel B. Foy, of Fort Ord, and three other soldiers died in an Army helicopter crash during a routine flight on June 9, 1983. They were members of A Company of the Seventh Aviation Battalion. The UH-1 helicopter crashed in rugged terrain near the coast of northern California.

Sorry to hear that news. During my short time at WCHS during the late freshman to sophomore year, Daniel was one of the few students I routinely interacted with. Also being in the Army and having been assigned to Fort Ord from 1989-91, I can relate to the hardship and risks involved in his duties. The year posted should be 1973 as Dan (RIP) died defending our country in Viet Nam .. Ironically, I saw him on TV in 1972 when Bob Hope was entertaining our troups there and Bob asked him a question ... sorry do not recall what Bob asked, but I am sure it was about one of the woman entertainers there that got a favorable smile on Dan's face ... I recognized his non mistaken MD southern country slang / talk ... If I stand correct, he was a Marine - TY for your service Dan .. you left us to soon and early on .. Oorah!

Acccording to UPI, the date posted is correct and the crash occurred in California, about 60 miles north of Ft Ord which is now closed but was just north of Monterey. Here is the link. Regardless of where, it's very sad.here is the link to the article. RIP
