way to stir things up Leane. LOL! So what weekend are we looking at for this shindig? Please don't make it August!

that is all

I want to stir the pot---let's have two reunions--for those that don't want to travel to Northern Maine we can find a vacation spot. And for those that live in the local area they can have it there. How's that for compromise? --Just kidding everyone, I would hate for anyone to leave the county and actually like it because then what would Presque Isle be Class C or D

I've been wondering if 4th of July weekend would be a good time for everyone?

08/05/08 10:59 AM #27

Barbara Kull Salls

Well I'm only 1 person but that weekend isn't good. Main reason being a holiday weekend, most people have family events planned. (like extended family) Not to mention airfare will be outrageous. I don't have family in Maine anymore although lots of you do.

Then again, you won't be able to please all the people, so I guess it'll be a majority rules type of thing?

I would have to say that Barb is correct, July 4th would be horrific for those who are driving or flying --gas prices are conveniently raised during that time.

I know in a lot of other parts of the country, class reunions are often held in association with a high school event--ie Homecoming, Spring Fling,Winter Carnival etc. The reuniting class gets recognition for being part of alumni--and for being old farts. For us, basketball would probably be the fun event to coincide our reunion. Picture it: Class of '89 taking up one side of the gym--yelling Erger, breer, and the band could play our song. LOL!

Oh, and I almost forgot--Drummond don't forget the fart spray!

Sounds like another time would work out better. Since it looks like we will probably have the reunion locally, it doesn't matter to me when it is. Maybe NOT having it during the summer months is a good idea. What have other classes done? Can we get some good tips from other classes?

08/08/08 08:59 PM #31

Barbara Kull Salls

Well... I think the summerish time would still be best, because the kids will be out of school. Maybe some time during Potato Harvest! LOL GOD I don't miss waking up at the asscrack of dawn to freeze my butt off picking freaking potatoes for $.50 a barrel. Having rotten potato fights!! UGH.... The hell were we thinking?!?!?!11!!!!! /rant

sorry got carried away there. O:-)

Class of 1988 just got finished with theirs and it looked like fun. Why doesn't someone contact them for ideas. One thing they had was their senior pictures as a nametag. *excellent idea*

Hey everyone,
It doesn't matter to me where we have it. My vote is that we decide soon so the planning can start and everyone has plenty of time to make travel plans. I have family in the Virgina and Carolina's that could help with the the babysitting issues. If we decide to go that way. But I am fine with PI too, my other brother still lives there so I have a sitter there too. I like the idea of having a family function, maybe during the day and an adult party that night.

Oh there will definately be a party night

Our new theme song will be "Party like a rockstar"

Summer is probably the best because of the school issue. We definately want as many folks there as possible since we are not getting younger. 4th of July weekend is not only hectic but it is also one of the deadliest weekends for travelers because so many folks are on the road. My thoughts are for the 2nd or 3rd weekend in July. Schools start early down in the southern states and they started in Ga around the 1st of August. Also tryouts for all the fall sports have been starting late July early August and that even held true this year for the PI soccer team. If we had it say the 3rd weekend in July we all could spend the 4th with our "local family and friends" and then a couple weeks later get another event to attend.

Probably should find out from the local establishments what weekend is even an option. We maybe limited already.

Well I must go watch the olympics---

Go USA

That's when we had the 10 year one, the third weekend in July. I know because that just happens to be my daughter's birthday and we had her b'day party at Mantle Lake Park. Anyway, like No Good said, I think it'd be best to check around with different venues.

Now I know why my mother stresses out trying to plan her class reunions (1954) good thing there is only about 40 classmates left. lol. I agree the 2nd or 3rd week of July would be best not Aug. 1st ..too much going on already.

I attended the 1988 class reunion and we did have a good time. The picture name tag was a great idea. However the venue was not all it should have been (food, costs of beverages for example). Not that we are alcoholics but we spent over $100 in drinks ($4.00 beer,$5.00 mixed drink)..I would suggest putting money towards renting the Shriners building and having it catered, bring your own alcoholic beverages or whatever you want and not be kicked out at midnight as it was at PI INN (most left and went to the Northeastland Hotel to the bar). Friday night at the Ski-Doo club is a good idea for a social night and we can probably get discounts as I am sure many around here are members. Just some ideas to throw out there and may I mention for the record..no baby bottle sucking games.
sorry for babbling on but definitely attending 1988 reunion did shed some light on different things for the planning process.

I talked with Tory (Elliott) Barber today about the Class of '88 reunion and got some great tips. Tory did a lot of the planning for their reunion and was a good resource. She mentioned the things Tricia posted and I'm working on getting quotes from various local venues.

We're also working on a survey which we plan to post on the site soon so classmates can help plan the reunion. We'll finalize the details of the survey questions at next week's meeting so look for it in a couple weeks. It looks like the third week of July is a good time for everyone so I'll use that timeframe when checking with venues.

I'm glad to see everyone is so involved. It makes helping to plan this event more exciting. Talk to ya soon!

In regards to the venue for the 20th Class Reunion, I have a comment about the Shrines Hall. I attended my husband's 20th Class Reunion (1984) at the Shrines the end of July which was hot and humid. The facility has no A/C and over half of the class spent the night outside fighting bugs. When we still lived in Portland, I was told by an SBA lender that PI was getting a new hotel. Does anyone know if they having a banquet room? By the way, when looking at the date for our 20th please keep in mind 25th Class Reunion. I am really looking forward to our 20th and catching up with everyone.

Good news, the Shrine building now has air conditioning so if we do go there, that's one thing we won't have to worry about.

Yes, there is a Hampton Inn in development where the old Armory building used to be on Main St, near Wal-Mart. However, only the land has been cleared and construction hasn't begun. It's a great thought though. We'll have to check into their completion date but it doesn't look like it would be done by next summer. Never know though. Do Hampton Inn's typically have a banquet room? I hope so, it would be nice for future events. Thanks for the idea, Linda.

Hey Everyone,
Is there anymore news on the class reunion? A set date?
Everyone has been so quiet the last few weeks.
Well, my family and I are getting ready to go on vacation. We are headed to North Carolina and Virigia. Going to visit my oldest brother Ray in North Carolina, and see my grand-niece. Man I am getting old, that I have a grand-niece. For those of you who remember my brother, I can't believe he is a grandfather.
We hope to get to Virginia Beach one day, we miss the Ocean. We lived in Utah for 2 1/2years and there definitely was no ocean.
Well hope everyone is doing well.

Where ever you want to have is fine with me, as long as I can drink and have fun.

Hello Everyone,
I have volunteered to head over to the Middle East in June for 6 months. Even though I have been looking forward to the reunion for quite sometime I had to weigh my options and do what was in my best interest.

My immediate supervisor is currently in the location I would be going in December. It is in a very remote location in Afganistan where only C-130 aircraft can land on small dirt/mud landing fields. They receive a daily dose of mortar fire and various other gun fire. This makes it one of the most dangerous places to be for my job. With that said, one of my co-workers was tasked to another location in the Middle East. A place where you will find alot of the top military officers. A location that is much safer and much better living conditions. He didn't want to go so I volunteered to take his place. This means I won't be at the reunion but it also means that I won't be going to bed every night wondering if I will wake up the next morning.
I hope each and everyone of you have a great time, even though over the years I haven't done a very good job keeping in touch I have not forgotten you all. Hopefully I can make a short video and send your way. I will however, be in PI sometime between March and Mid-May. For those in the area you know I would love to head to Coppers and have a beer or 4. Good luck and God Bless--Jerry "No Good"

No Good, you will be missed by all of us. My thoughts and prayers will be with you during your adventure. I am hoping to head to PI during that time period. I would love to catch up with you.

I would love to come up to visit for the weekend, but I kinda need to know what's going on. So the reunion is 8/1.. that's all we know so far?

Jerry, have fun up there!

Hey Everyone I hope you all have a great weekend. We will not be able to make it. We've had to delay our vacation at the last minute. The investors that own the property I manage have decided to decend on Columbus to check on all properties. So therefore I need to stay in town this weekend. Some one have a drink for me. Have a wonderful weekend.
