Doug Olson
PRICE– Douglas John Olson, age 53, passed away January 10, 2015. He was born in Price on March 26, 1961 to John Robert (Bob) and Diane Gardner Olson. Doug was a proud graduate of Carbon High School, Class of 1979. He married his angel, Amy Christine Markakis on December 7, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Married and best friends for 17 years and proud to say never had a fight. They had the kind of love and respect between each other that people dream of.
Doug had the biggest heart and was always worried about others and how he could help them. He loved to stop and visit at friends’ houses; when he wasn’t able to get out much, the telephone was his connection to the world. It was nothing for him to wear out two phone batteries in one conversation. Doug was a tireless worker, picking up as many extra ambulance runs as he could. He worked for the Fish and Game, for his parents at J.R. Bob Olson Distributor and as the youngest loan officer at Zion’s Bank. He owned a collection agency and had many stories of being shot at while repossessing anything with wheels. His two favorite jobs were much more than jobs - he loved working with Robert Etzel at Mitchell Funeral Home and as a paramedic on the Carbon County Ambulance. It was devastating to him when he had to finally quit working due to a back injury. There is nothing he wanted more than to be able to save a life on the ambulance again.
Doug’s loves were trapshooting, fishing, deer hunting, snowmobiling, the family cabin in Scofield, going to Lake Powell with friends, and many trips with Amy to Las Vegas where he couldn’t walk by a roulette table without pulling $20.00 out and asking Amy, “which one, red or black?”. Doug had a very special bond with all his grandparents and he cherished the memories spent fishing, camping, rock hunting, and hanging out at B&G Market in Helper. Doug took wonderful care of his grandparents and made sure they didn’t want for anything, spending hours on end with them just talking and watching TV. He is finally reunited with them in heaven and out of pain.
